What Stage Plus Means To Me #Sarah

This weeks Blog Post is by Sarah Grimwood,
mum of two of our Senior Boys.

“As the Mum of two boys I’d anticipated spending hours on a freezing touch-line, forever washing muddy clothes and tending bruises (and worse) as a result of sporting encounters. However, neither of them really showed much interest in ball sports so I breathed a sigh of relief and ferried them to karate classes and musical events instead. And then, as teenagers, they both decided to join my husband (who has played rehearsal piano for the Risborough Youth Theatre (RYT) for more years than I can remember) and audition for their upcoming production of Aladdin – and a whole new chapter started.

With weekly rehearsals, two shows per year and a whole host of new friends and social events, I’d thought that their time was pretty much filled. Until they asked if they could take some dance lessons to complement their burgeoning singing and acting skills. So now, every Wednesday evening finds them at Stage Plus working hard on their Modern/Jazz/Contemporary dance moves – and absolutely loving it.

And so it is that with two teenage boys, (one of whom is pretty much old enough to be leaving home), I seem to have become a ‘dance mum’! In the last couple of weeks I have lost count of the rehearsals I’ve taken them to, but the joy and excitement that they have derived from participating in both Chesham Festival (at the Elgiva) and the Making Memories show (at the Waterside), make it so worthwhile.

Gemma and her team have created a wonderful Stage Plus Family where my boys feel nurtured and valued and able to learn to express themselves in a fabulously supportive environment. And I feel honoured to be able to sit on the side-lines and watch them grow.
Thank you.”

As 11th June 2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of myself as Owner and Principal of Stage Plus, I wanted to publish a blog post per week talking about what Stage Plus means to people, written by a variety of people including faculty, parents and students, past and present!

If you would like to write a little bit about your time at Stage Plus please email it to me with a photo.
