What Stage Plus Means To Me #Kate

Our next Blog Post is from Kate Whitaker a Graduate Student who is now working as a Professional Actress.

“I was part of Stage Plus for 8 years, joining when I was 11 and leaving when I was 19. In this time I attended Thursday night Drama classes originally taught by Kate, and then later taken over by Sara. I loved improvisation games and how they always ended up being either very dramatic or unimaginable. At the time it was the only opportunity I had to be friends with people of different ages and at different schools. It was very sociable and I felt as if I grew up with many of those people.

As I got older I also attended performance troupe taught by Gemma and Eloise, in the hope to achieve more musical theatre experience. I enjoyed competing in dance competitions, and winning our stage of the Red Cross dance competition was a big buzz! This class genuinely helped me to become a more all round performer and has helped me in many auditions since. As an added hobby I decided to take up tap dancing as I had always wanted to learn. By then however I was 3 times the age of those at beginner level so I had private lessons taught by Emily and Chloe. Due to a successful audition for a Pantomime this stopped, but I would definitely look to carry this on.

Believe it or not, I now work as a professional actor, specialising in comedy, and pantomime acting. This allows me to be involved with great community theatre, comedy and Theatre in Education. This was never an obvious path for me, but I have found that I love children’s theatre and I am actually fairly good at it! Soon to embark on another TIE project, that could potentially take me to international schools across the world, I am certainly using my varied skills learnt through my teenage years at Stage Plus.”

As 11th June 2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of myself as Owner and Principal of Stage Plus, I wanted to publish a blog post per week talking about what Stage Plus means to people, written by a variety of people including faculty, parents and students, past and present!

If you would like to write a little bit about your time at Stage Plus please email it to me with a photo.
